
Statistics is a comprehensive mathematics course that develops the skills needed to collect, analyse, interpret, and communicate data in an increasingly data-driven world. Students learn how statistical methods are used to identify patterns, draw meaningful conclusions, and make informed decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions. Beginning with methods of data collection and organisation, the course progresses through descriptive statistics, probability distributions, statistical inference, regression, and modelling, providing students with both practical analytical skills and a strong theoretical foundation.
Throughout the course, students investigate how data can be represented visually, summarised numerically, and analysed using appropriate statistical techniques. They explore sampling methods, measures of centre and spread, probability models, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression while learning to critically evaluate statistical claims and recognise common sources of bias and error. Emphasis is placed on statistical reasoning, problem solving, and interpreting results within real-world contexts.
