
Trigonometry is a comprehensive mathematics course that explores the relationships between angles, triangles, and periodic functions. Building upon the foundations of geometry, students develop a deep understanding of trigonometric ratios, the unit circle, trigonometric functions, identities, and equations. They learn to solve problems involving both right and non-right triangles while discovering how trigonometry provides a powerful mathematical framework for describing cycles, waves, rotations, and periodic phenomena.
Throughout the course, students investigate the graphical behaviour of trigonometric functions, apply identities to simplify expressions and solve equations, and use the Laws of Sines and Cosines to analyse complex geometric situations. The course also introduces trigonometric modelling, polar coordinates, and applications in physics, engineering, navigation, architecture, and other STEM disciplines. Emphasis is placed on developing mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and the ability to connect algebraic, graphical, and geometric representations.
